Power Input assembly completed

Tonight I finished wiring the power input panel. It's amazing how much mechanical work goes into an electrical project - I spend several evenings working on the blank panel, doing layout, drilling and tapping holes, making some standoffs and modifying others, making some angle brackets, etc. That was before I even started doing the wiring. Mounting all the parts and doing the wiring went quickly by comparison - two evenings.

Panel, spacers,
brackets, etc.

The terminal blocks along the front are (from left to right):

  • Spacer
  • Switched L1, Neutral, and L2 (two terminals each) for stepper power supply and temporary single phase spindle motors.
  • Ground (green/yellow)
  • DC Bus for eventual spindle VFD
  • Spacer
  • Unswitched L1 and Neutral, for computer, etc (three terminals each)
  • Ground
  • Unswitched L2 and Neutral, for misc loads (usable with 240V input, to balance load between L1 and L2).
  • Ground
  • Control signals (blue wiring) - 12V input to energise, contact closure when ready to run
  • Spacer
  • Main Power Input - L1, Neutral, L2
  • Ground
