Fri, 22 Dec 2006 After spending too much of the day in "analysis paralysis", trying to figure out spindle drive mounting and cooling, I decided that I needed to do something concrete. So I started on mounting the electronics enclosure. I ground off the welded on tabs at the top first. Then I installed some 3/8-16 carriage bolts from the inside of the bench pointing out, with nuts to hold them in and space the bottom of the box away from the bench (because there is a rail 3/4" thick along the top). The bottom mounting tabs already have slots intended for 3/8" bolts, so it just sets right down on the bolts. I used the tabs I removed from the top as backup plates to ensure that the wood wouldn't crush down - as usual, its overbuilt. The bolts at the bottom hold the weight, but without something at the top the box would just tilt away from the bench. I'm going to permanently attach angle brackets to the sides of the box, so they can bolt to the back edge of the bench. That's a job for tomorrow though. (posted: 22 Dec 2006 23:52) (permalink) |
