First I gotta make some room

One of the biggest obsatcles to making serious progress on my CNC project is the mess that I call a basement. I'm a packrat, and I have stuff all over the place.

The CNC project will among other things require the Shoptask machine to be turned 90 degrees, to keep the Y axis stepper from hitting the wall, and to allow for better access to the spindle motor, etc. Moving the machine is a big project. It weighs about 700 lbs, and is sitting on a workbench that has another couple hundred pounds of tools and such in it. It hasn't been moved since I got it in 1998.

In order to move it, I have to take it apart. To take it apart, I need places to put the pieces. I'll also have to remove the drawers from the bench and put them somewhere. Which comes back to the messy basement. I just don't have any place to put all the pieces of a torn-apart 700 pound machine, until I clean up the mess.

Below is a crude panarama showing the "before" condition of the basement. It was actually worse - a week or two ago, the clear spot in front of my "desk" was barely big enough for the chair. (Click for bigger pics.)
