The Shoptask goes to pieces

I took off just about everything that is removable, to get the weight as low as possible before moving the machine. In the process, I cleaned eight years of chips, oil, and just plain gunk off of the machine. The pics below are before cleaning. Note the nice stripe up the wall - cutting oil that's been flung off the chuck and/or workpiece. I'll be cleaning that too, once the machine is no longer up against the wall.

The experience of taking it all apart will be very usefull in the future when I'm figuring out how to replace the Acme screws with ballscrews, etc. Whats left right now is the essence of a lathe: a bed casting with ways, and a headstock with a spindle in it.

So what happened to all the pieces I took off? In a pile on the floor, of course!

4. lathe intermediate step pulley
