HGR comes thru again - electrical enclosure
I went to HGR Industrial Surplus this afternoon looking for an electrical enclosure to hold all the control "guts", and scored quite nicely. Got a 24" wide x 30" high x 8" deep heavy duty gasketed box, in nearly new condition, for $50. It only has a few holes in it, and they are all nicely sealed off. It needs a mounting panel, but that won't be too hard. In fact, I might spring for some 3/16 or 1/4" aluminum instead of the usual 1/8" steel, so it will be easier to drill and tap for mounting things. The pics show it temporarily in place (setting on some bricks). The mounting ears that stick up will get cut off, otherwise it's just about perfect. As the second pic shows, I can mount the guard right at the front edge of the box, and it will allow space for the table stepper motor. Right now the door opens almost all the way before it hits the shelves. If I move the bench forward about an inch and a half the door will open all the way.
While I was there I saw another smaller box, 14" wide, 16" high, and 6" deep. Although it has quite a few holes in it, it was only $25, so I bought it anyway. Even if I don't use it for anything, it had some handy stuff inside. First, nine watertight/oiltight cable glands that fit the holes, and second, a 50 pin breakout board (just what I need for the m5i20 I/O). Since the breakout board alone sells for about $40, the box itself is a bonus.
